5 MISTAKES TO AVOID WHEN BUYING TOOLS ONLINE

13 October 2022

These days, it’s common for people to buy most things online and tools are no exception. It’s easy to browse various websites to find exactly the right tool for your needs, often at a great price.

But, there’s a difference between buying tools in-store as opposed to purchasing your tools online because you can’t feel or touch them so you have to rely on images and product descriptions.

Here are 5 mistakes to avoid when buying your tools online.

1. BUYING TOOLS THAT DON’T HAVE THE PERFORMANCE YOU NEED

When selecting the right tool for a job that you want to complete, you need to ensure that the tool you choose has the performance that you need.

Therefore, you need to do a bit of research to understand all the various elements of each tool such as the wattage, voltage, and speed to ensure that the tool can actually perform the task that you need it to.

2. PURCHASING TOOLS THAT HAVE FAR MORE CAPABILITY THAN YOU NEED

It can be tempting to purchase a tool that has multiple functions because it appears that you’re getting more value for your money. However, if the tool has functions that you’re just never going to use, you’re just wasting your cash.

Similarly, you might be considering purchasing a tool that has a far higher power capacity than you actually need for the job at hand. Once again, this means that you could be spending more than you have to.

3. BUYING GENERIC BATTERIES TO SAVE MONEY

When it comes to buying replacement batteries, it can be tempting to buy a generic brand in order to save a bit of money. However, in the long run, this might not be a good idea.

Branded batteries are designed for the tools that you’re using. While they may cost a bit more, they will look after the life of your tool and there’s less likelihood of something going wrong and causing damage or even starting a fire.

4. DISREGARDING CORDED TOOLS IN PREFERENCE FOR CORDLESS ONES

Although more and more people are favouring cordless tools due to their convenience and portability, there are some tools that really don’t need to be cordless. If the tool that you’re going to buy will only be used in your garage or workshop, there’s no need to buy a cordless one.

Quite often this will save you some money and you know that the tool will always be ready for use once you plug it in. This means, there’s no wasted time while you wait for the battery to charge.

5. NOT REGISTERING YOUR TOOLS FOR THE WARRANTY

Most top branded tools will come with a decent warranty but you need to register your tool online first before you can actually make a claim if something malfunctions.

Even if the warranty card needs to be sent in with your receipt, make sure that you do so as soon as possible. This will save you from being out of pocket if something does go wrong.

IN SUMMARY

Buying tools online is fast and easy. You can do your research from the comfort of your home and have your new tool delivered to your address without getting in the car.

However, you do need to be aware of these 5 common mistakes in order to ensure that you end up being happy with your purchase and can complete the projects at hand with ease.
